Personal Statement

Morakinyo Adedayo Ayoade is a globally recognised expert in energy (petroleum, natural gas, electricity, and renewable energy), extractives, and governance. A qualified lawyer, his professional career spans Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions.

Prof. Ayoade received his early education at the Edinburgh Academy in Scotland and earned his LL.B. (Hons) degree from the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK. He holds an LL.M. (Maritime) from the University of Wales, Cardiff, and an LL.M. (Resources/ Oil & Gas Law), along with a Ph.D. in Energy Law and Economics, from the renowned Centre for Energy, Petroleum, and Mineral Law & Policy (CEPMLP) at the University of Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom. Prof. Ayoade is an accomplished academic and practitioner.

He teaches, conducts research, and practices in the fields of energy, natural resources, anti-corruption/ governance, counterterrorism, dispute resolution, investment, and international trade law. He is a senior member of numerous prestigious professional organisations, including the International Bar Association, Nigerian Bar Association, Nigerian Society of International Law (Governing Council), Association of International Energy Negotiators, and the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos Nigeria. Additionally, he serves as an Honorary Professor of Energy, Environment, and Society at the CEPMLP, University of Dundee, Scotland United Kingdom.
