Welcome to the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law. The Department occupies a central place in the intellectual life of the Faculty of Law, providing students with the theoretical foundations of law and a deep understanding of the international legal order.
Our teaching and research span a wide range of subjects that explore both the philosophical underpinnings of law and its operation within national and global contexts. The Department offers courses including Jurisprudence, Legal Methods, Nigerian Legal System, Public International Law, Conflict of Laws (Private International Law), Oil and Gas Law, Law of the Sea, Law of Armed Conflict, Mineral Law and Water Resources and International Economic Law.
Through these courses, we seek to develop in our students strong analytical and critical thinking skills, a solid understanding of legal reasoning, and an appreciation of the role of law in shaping societies and regulating relations between states, institutions, and individuals. Our programmes are designed to equip students with the intellectual tools necessary to engage with complex legal questions and contemporary global challenges.
