Personal Statement
Shade Adegbite graduated from the University of Ilorin in 1999, where she obtained an LL.B (Second Class Upper Division) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2000. She holds an LL.M and PhD from the University of Lagos. She holds other certifications from Harvard Global Health Institute, Harvard University and the University of Pretoria (Advanced Certificate in Africa Human Rights System). She worked in various places, including G.M. Ibrak Co., Wole Olufonk Co., and the Lagos State Judiciary before joining the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos in 2010.
She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Private and Property Law, and was a visiting researcher to the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Her areas of research include Medical Law, Sexual and Reproductive Rights, Child and Gender Studies, and Family Law, she has various publications (locally and internationally) in these areas.
She is a member of professional bodies including the International Forum of Teachers (ITF) of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics Network, Amnesty International, World Association of Medical Law, Africa Bar Association, and an Alumnus of Association of Commonwealth Universities. Shade is a Notary Public of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC)
