Personal Statement
Prof. Iyabode Ogunniran obtained her LL.B. LL.M. and Ph.D. Degrees from the University of Lagos in 1992, 1996, 2012, respectively. She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1993 and joined the Department of Public Law in 2003. Prof. Ogunniran’s research interests include Child Law, Gender and the Law, Constitutional Law, Criminal Justice and Legal Education. She was a Visiting Scholar at the Centre for Child Law, University of Pretoria, South Africa (2010) and Research Fellow at the School of Law, University of Reading, United Kingdom in 2013. Prof. Ogunniran co-authored a research based book funded by the UNILAG Central Research Committee on Child Justice Administration under the Child Rights Law of Lagos State (2016). She is a member of the Lagos State Child Rights Implementation Committee. Her Expert Opinion on international child abduction was heavily relied upon by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Ajayi v Ajayi (2022) in declaring the children wrongfully removed and retained and sent back to Nigeria. Prof. Ogunniran is the Co-Convener PUL Gender Roundtable; Chairperson, Gender Conference (2024) and was the LL.M. Coordinator (2016-2018). She won the “Faculty Best Researcher Award” at the 11th Annual UNILAG Conference and Fair, 2016. She is a Member, Governing Council, McPherson University. She is also a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the Nigerian Association of Law Teachers.
