Personal Statement
Prof. Akeem Olajide Bello obtained LL.B. Hons. (UNIBEN, 1990), B.L (1991), LL.M (Lagos, 1997) and PhD (Lagos, 2015). He practiced law between 1992 and 1995 before joining the Faculty of Law, Olabisi Onabanjo University in 1995. Prof. Bello teaches Criminal Law, Environmental Law and Human Rights.
Outside academia, Prof. Bello has been involved in Criminal Justice Administration reforms since 2005. He was a member of the Committee that drafted the Lagos State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2007. He was formerly a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on Public and Constitutional Law between September 2007 and 2011. Prof. Bello was a member of the Criminal Code Law Reform Committees in Lagos (2009), Ondo (2020), Edo and Anambra (2019-2020). He was a Lagos State Law Reform Commissioner (2012-2015).
Prof. Bello was a Consultant for the British Council and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime on several criminal justice reform projects. He has published extensively in local and international journals on Criminal Law and criminal justice issues. He is a member of the Lagos State Restorative Justice Steering Committee overseeing the implementation of restorative justice in Lagos State.
