From 1991, Prof Abiola Sanni (SAN) lectured at Obafemi Awolowo University until he joined the Faculty in 1999. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the International Tax Programme, Beasley School of Law, Temple University, Philadelphia, USA and Research Fellow of the Institute of International Law and Policy (2003). He was simultaneously appointed Professor of Commercial Law and Occupier of the Lagos State Government Professorial Chair at the University of Lagos in 2016.

He is Editor, Introduction to Nigerian Legal Methods; Author, Introduction to Nigerian Business Law; and Founder and Editor-in-Chief, Nigerian Revenue Law Reports (NRLR) and African Tax Law Reports (ATLR). Prof Sanni is member, International Bar Association (IBA), Fellow, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN); Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICARB), Life Member, Nigerian Society of International Law (NSIL); Legal Adviser, Academic Staff of Union of Universities (University of Lagos); and Member, Tax Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). A former Chair of both the National Tax Policy Review Committee (NTPRC) and the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC), He is a member of the Presidential Fiscal Policy Tax Reform Committee. He served as Head of Department of Commercial and Industrial Law (2023-2024) and Dean of the Faculty of Law (2024 – 2026)
