The Law Students’ Society (LSS)
LSS Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, is the umbrella student body in charge of affairs pertaining to the welfare of all undergraduate law students in the University of Lagos with a mandate to see to the academic, professional, social, economic and holistic development of all undergraduate law students.
The main aim of LSS is:
- To promote a friendly relationship with other law faculties/students, legal institutions, law firms and other educational bodies within and outside Nigeria whose aims are acceptable to the Society.
- To promote the intellectual, social and cultural activities of the members irrespective of social, religious or ethnic backgrounds, and inculcate into all members, the ethics and behavior that are expected of members of the legal profession.
- To organize class tutorials, essay competitions, court visitations, debates and chambers attachments, moot courts and mock trials, law dinners, talent shows, career fairs, annual lectures and other programs or projects beneficial to law students which aid their academics and career prospects.
- To promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through awareness and embarking on projects to achieve a better world by 2030.
- To be at the forefront of the propagation of freedom, human rights, justice and equality for all people and to inculcate such principles in the hearts and minds of students of the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos.
Chambers
Primus Interpares Non Secundum – First Among Equals, Second to None. The Taslim Elias Students’ Chamber is a student-run chamber named in honor of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria: Taslim Olawale Elias GCON and is primarily focused on the holistic development of its members.
Through a family-based approach, the chamber focuses on nurturing members to stand out for Excellence, commending and appreciating them from time to time as well as ensuring their legal skills are sharpened to prepare them for the legal field.
As the current winners of the LSS Award for the Best Chamber, they pride themselves in ensuring value packed packages and events for our members both Academically and otherwise which include: Internship Slots, Quizzes, Giveaways, Email ‘Love Letters’, Discounted Slots to Faculty Hosted Events such as the LMUN etc.
As the annual hosts of THE MANIFESTO (A public speaking competition held with all Chambers and Associations in the Faculty), we seek to sensitize students on the topical areas as well as provide refreshments, games and more to ensure learning in a fun and conducive atmosphere.
Also, The Clinical Legal Education (CLE) hosted by the Taslim Elias Students’ Chamber provides a learning avenue for Mock Trials, Mooting, CV Writing and other skills valued in the Legal Field and beyond with Experts invited to teach participants.

The Gani Fawehinmi Students’ Chambers, University of Lagos, Nigeria is a registered student-run chamber named after the late globally renowned Nigerian human rights crusader and luminary, Chief Ganiyu Oyesola Fawehinmi (SAN, SAM), who doubles as our life patron. As a chamber, we strive to emulate his evergreen example of – standing for what is right, even if it means standing alone. We are committed to the improvement of the legal, political, social and academic welfare of our members. Our programs and activities are aimed at sharpening the entire advocacy and lawyering skills of our members, placing particular attention on the Gani Brand. In achieving these, we organize human rights campaigns, Agora meetings, political discourses and other initiatives that are incidental to the dispensation of justice which is crucial to nation-building. Our programs are tools for creating awareness because we believe that only enlightened societies thrive.
The Justice Kayode Eso Student Chambers is a student-run chamber within the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, named in honor of the late Justice Kayode Eso (CON, CFR), and established in 2006. With the motto: Fiat Justitia Ruat Caelum “Let justice be done though the heavens fall” the chambers is dedicated to championing justice causes internally and externally through challenging and wielding its student membership and
vast alumni network. To this end, it boasts to be the only chambers so far in the faculty that has over time championed the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). On the other hand, it prides itself in being the most social chambers, with the tradition of organizing an annual faculty wide karaoke.
Eso is also known for its family spirit, with initiatives such as the book drive challenging members to give back in cash and kind. Also, a squad and buddy system put in place for the family experience.
Our mission is to build the character, personality, and intellect of our members through integrated programs of teaching, research, and service, enabling them to achieve their professional goals and provide leadership and service to their communities. To achieve this mission, we organize weekly programs and landmark events that attract attendance from within and outside the University of Lagos over the years. Additionally, we have hosted several unique programs, including:

ASSOCIATIONS
The Mooting Society
The Mooting Society is a student community established in 2008 under the supervision of the Dean of the Faculty of Law. Our mission is to develop essential skills to thrive in the legal industry. We focus on practical training in advocacy, legal research, public speaking, debates, and mock trials. The society is dedicated to equipping its members with hands-on experience, preparing them to tackle contemporary legal issues and excel in Nigeria and internationally. The society also expands learning opportunities through initiatives like the School of Reasoning and Rhetoric, the Lagos Model United Nations, and Mock Trial Trainings, making it a hub for members and non-members to grow and excel.
The Tax Club
The Tax Club, University of Lagos, was established in the year 2005 to advance the knowledge and practice of tax amongst students in Nigeria while boosting the tax culture among Nigerians at large. It is a student’s-run club in the University of Lagos, bound by the mandate to continually serve as a breeding ground for the best and most formidable tax experts. In line with this mandate, the club have organized THE TAX WALK, YOUTH TAX SUMMIT, THE TAX EXPERIENCE and THE NATIONAL TAX DEBATE to impact the lives of our members.
The Insurance Club
The Unilag Insurance Club is a growing, viable and resourceful student group comprising students of different faculties pooled together with the aim of educating and creating awareness on the field of Insurance. The club aims to create an educative and mentorship platform for students interested in the field as well as providing guidance and information on general issues regarding Insurance in Nigeria.
The Maritime Forum
The Maritime Forum is the largest and most influential student maritime association in Sub-Saharan Africa. Established in 2015, it has become a platform for young minds eager to explore the vast opportunities within the maritime industry. As a student-led organization, the Forum’s core mission is to elevate understanding and awareness among its members and the university community about the boundless possibilities in maritime, one of the world’s most dynamic sectors.
More than just a learning platform, the Maritime Forum is a launchpad for ambitious youth-driven initiatives. It creates a fertile ground where students are nurtured to become the next generation of experts and leaders in the maritime sector. Through a rich variety of activities— ranging from seminars, conferences, and workshops to exclusive internships—the Forum ensures its members are equipped with the
knowledge, experience, and networks to excel.
The Forum’s events are nothing short of groundbreaking. Its flagship event, the Taiwo Afolabi Annual Maritime Conference, draws thought leaders and industry professionals from across the country. The Maritime Masterclass equips students with practical insights and skills, while excursions to key ports, like Sifax, and visits to major maritime sectors offer members invaluable firsthand experience. By consistently delivering high-impact programs, the Maritime Forum not only enhances education but also shapes the future of maritime innovation and leadership.
This excellence has not gone unnoticed. The Forum has proudly won prestigious awards such as the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria Southwest Zonal Directorate Law Club of the Year and the LSS Award for Best Student Association. These accolades testify to its immeasurable impact, both within the university and across the broader maritime industry.
Oil and Gas Bar
The Oil and Gas Bar is a student association at the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, established in 2007 with the aim of acquainting its members with the legal, theoretical, and practical aspects of the energy sector in Nigeria. Its members comprise students from the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Geo-sciences (Geology and Geophysics), and the Faculty of Engineering (Petroleum and Gas Engineering).
The association’s mission is to ensure that its members are well-versed in the energy sector. The Energy Expo, an event organized by the bar, serves as a key initiative to bring this mission to life.

Lagos Model United Nations (LMUN)
The Lagos Model United Nations is the premier annual Model United Nations conference in West Africa. Established in 2016, this conference is dedicated to fostering a community of young people passionate about international relations and committed to making real world changes. Currently held in the University of Lagos and domiciled in the Faculty of Law, this conference simulates the United Nations, allowing students to serve as delegates of various nations.
LMUN is a student led organization with a mission to empower students to become confident speakers, critical thinkers, and effective diplomats. This prestigious organization believes that there’s power in dialogue and cooperation to address the various complex challenges the world faces. In line with this mission, the Lagos Model United Nations, as a staple component of its annual conference, organizes Sustainable Development Goals Workshops, The Idea Fair, and participates in the Refugee Challenge Competition. In recent years, LMUN has sought to widen its impact through its Pledge Drive initiative, which enables the LMUN to give back to SDG focused NGOs within the country. LMUN is recognized by the United Nations through the United Nations Information Centre.
The Unilag ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Society is a student-run organization at the University of Lagos, focused on promoting awareness and practice of ADR methods like mediation, negotiation, and arbitration. It aims to equip students with practical skills in conflict resolution outside traditional litigation. The society organizes workshops, seminars, and competitions, fostering legal innovation. Members collaborate with professionals and institutions in the ADR field for networking and growth opportunities. The society is integral to nurturing future ADR practitioners and legal professionals.
The Christian Law Students Fellowship of Nigeria (CLASFON)
CLASFON is a national fellowship of law students with chapters across Nigeria. It serves as an avenue for everyone in the Faculty of Law to know Jesus, and learn of Him. What’s more? It offers such beautiful fellowship amidst friends and seniors who, like pillars, would help you successfully navigate your legal journey at the University of Lagos, Law school, and beyond. In pursuance of our vision of a new legal profession anchored on Christ, we prioritise spiritual growth and academic excellence.
The Nigerian Association of Muslim Law Students (NAMLAS)
NAMLAS University of Lagos (Unilag), is a vital branch of the national organization based in Abuja. This student-led body unites Muslim law students from universities across Nigeria, fostering a supportive environment for their religious, academic, and social development. NAMLAS was founded in 1999, The association enjoys the endorsement of numerous distinguished figures who have made significant contributions to the legal profession both locally and internationally. Under the direction of the national body, NAMLAS Unilag organizes annual conferences, symposia, seminars, and summits. These events provide members with invaluable opportunities for learning, networking, and connecting with fellow law students from across the country.
The Intellectual Property Club, UNILAG
IPC, UNILAG is a hub conceived to drive IP awareness amongst students, academia, and the general public. The club brings together students from different faculties and disciplines to share ideas, participate in innovation challenges, and compete in IP-based competitions of both national and global scales.
IPC UNILAG is run by student executives and IP experts who double as staff advisers. The Club has hosted IP sensitization walks since 2019 in commemoration of the World IP Day every 26th of April at UNILAG Main Campus, MEDLAG, and also UNILAG Radio to create awareness.
The core vision of the Club is to build the next generation of IP experts and creatives who understand the roadmap from ideation to launching new ideas. Brick by brick, we harness the power of digital media platforms to educate creatives and the public about their IP rights, especially within the digital economy. In our parlance, we say, “Welcome to the realm of geniuses.”
