VIASHIMA SIMON AKAAYAR

(Associate Professor)

Dr. Viashima Akaayar joined the Faculty in 2010 and teaches Law of Contract, Company Law,

Law of Insurance, Law of Banking & Labour Law. He graduated from Benue State University with

2nd Class (Upper Division) in 2004. He passed the Nigerian Bar Examination with 2nd Class

(Upper Division) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006. He subsequently obtained LL.M.

and Phd degrees at the University of Lagos in 2010 and 2014 respectively. Dr. Akaayar has

several publications to his credit in both national and international journals. He co-authored

International Encyclopaedia of Laws – Insurance Law: Nigeria 2018, and its revised edition

(2022). He won the Best Researcher Award at the University of Lagos International Research Fair

in 2015. He has served the University in different capacities, including as Faculty of Law

Examination Officer (2014 – 2016); Staff Advisor, Law Student Society (2016 till date); Hall

Warden (2015 – 2019); Hall Master (2019 till date); Departmental Postgraduate Representative

(2016) & (2021 till date); and member of several of University Committees and Panels. He has

traveled widely and is an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and Nigerian

Association of Law Teachers (NALT).
