On 19th November, 2024 the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos (UNILAG) hosted the highly anticipated Gender Conference 2024, bringing together policymakers, scholars, legal practitioners, activists, and students to discuss the pressing issues surrounding gender equality.
The keynote address was delivered by Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu CON OON, represented by her Special Adviser on Legal Matters, Barr. Maryam Obadina.
Special Guests at the event included: Engr. Tamunominini Olufunke Makinde, First Lady, Oyo State; Former First Lady of Ekiti State, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, Dr Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, First Lady, Lagos State, represented by Mrs Mustapha; and Honourable Kafilat Ogbara representing the Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Honourable Tejudeen Abbas.
There were presentations and panel discussions on the approaches to effectively eliminate gender-based violence in Nigeria and foster women’s economic empowerment.
