Welcome to the Department of Commercial and Industrial Law in the Faculty of Law. The Department plays a vital role in advancing the Faculty’s commitment to excellence in legal education, research, and professional development.
Our Department is dedicated to providing rigorous teaching and innovative research in key areas of commercial and business law that are central to modern legal practice and economic development. Our curriculum covers a broad range of courses including Law of Contract, Law of Commercial Transactions, Intellectual Property Law, Law of Taxation, Law of Banking, Law of Insurance, Shipping and Admiralty Law, Industrial Law, and Company Law.
Through these courses, we aim to equip our students with a strong foundation in commercial legal principles, critical analytical skills, and a deep understanding of the legal frameworks that regulate business and industry. Our teaching and research also engage with contemporary developments in commerce, finance, labour relations, and global trade.

About Commercial & Industrial Law Department
The Department of Commercial and Industrial Law hosts the Centre for Business Law and Policy. The Centre was established in 2021 with funding from an alumnus of the Faculty, Professor Fidelis Oditah, QC SAN. The Centre is a platform for research, cooperation and collaboration between the legal profession, industry and regulators. It promotes the exchange of
knowledge, opinions and expertise on contemporary business law scholarship, practice and policy issues, through guest lectures, seminars, workshops and publications. It serves as a platform that connects academics, practitioners, law-enforcement officials, policy makers and students in business law and related disciplines.
Since its inception, the centre has organised numerous academic events with speakers and discussants from the Bench, Bar, Regulators and Academia. These events include a Roundtable on Naira Redesign, Policy Dialogue on the Current Fiscal & Monetary Reform in Nigeria, Dialogue on the Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) v. Federal Republic of Nigerian Case, and Dialogue on the Prospects and Challenges of the Nigeria Data Protection Act and the Regulation of Data Processing in Nigeria.
