Personal Statement
Distinguished Prof. Taiwo Adetayo Osipitan, SAN, FCArb, FNIALS, is an alumnus of the University of Lagos (1977-1980 set) and graduated with Honours. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1981, and was enrolled as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He was the prize winner of Hon. Justice Somolu Memorial Prize for the best student in Civil Procedure at the Bar Final Examination. He obtained his LL.M Degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1982, and joined the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos in November 1983. He was appointed as a Professor of Public Law in October, 1998, and served, at diverse times, as the Head of Public Law Department.
In 2018, he was honoured by the University as a Distinguished Professor of Law. Prof. Osipitan served as a member of the Governing Council of Lagos State University, Ojo, and is currently a member of the Governing Council of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. He was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2002. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators and the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies. Prof. Osipitan specializes in Constitutional Law, Law of Evidence and Criminal Law, which he teaches at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He has published extensively in scholarly journals in those areas.
