Professor Joseph E.O Abugu
Head of Department, Commercial and Industrial Law

Professor Abugu was educated at Urhobo College, Effurun, Delta State, Nigeria and the Centre for Business Studies,Royal Hill, Greenwich, London where he respectively had Ordinary and Advanced Level Certificates of General Education. He graduated from the University of Nigeria Nsukka in 1988 with a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in Law (LL.B.) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989. He was admitted to Master's degree in Law (LL.M.) at the University of Lagos,
Nigeria in 1991 and Ph.D. (Commercial and Industrial Law) degree in 2003.He is presently a Professor in the Department of Commercial and Industrial Law.

Professor Abugu teaches Company Law; Law of Partnership and Other Organisations;Industrial Law and Law of Banking and Negotiable Instruments. His special interests are in Company and Securities Law. Professor Abugu has served the University in several Administrative capacities including Ag. Chairman, University Legal Research Committee; Coordinator of the Advanced Diploma in Commercial Law and Practice;Coordinator, Interdepartmental LL.M.Programme, and member of the Senate of the University.

Professor Abugu is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the Nigerian Law Teachers Association as well as the Nigerian Institute of Management. He has several publications to his credit in local and international journals. He is the author of the pioneer text on Nigerian Securities law titled: Company Securities: Law & Practice (2005).
